Stop Being So Busy!

I have been feeling grateful this week for warmer temperatures and a little sunshine. It helps to ground my mind and body.

I have also settled into having more “on my plate” than usual. I started the new Yoga Teacher Training recently, I am wrapping up a six month Sangha group, and I am preparing for upcoming workshops and exhibitions. There has been a lot of behind the scenes work with my website, scheduling, and of course all that fun tax-season stuff.

Additionally, my daughter Ellessia turns nineteen next weekend and she wants to come home for a full weekend of celebration. So that means about 8 hours in the car and some cupcake baking somewhere in there. My baby is almost a full grown adult…🥲

That is a lot of planning, prepping, and implementing, and very little free time on the weekends. Usually my first reaction is to feel stressed and upset “poor me, I am sooooo busy!”

I have learned that not over-thinking about all that needs to be done is the way to feel more at ease at any moment. I really am not any busier than usual, so I have to stop feeling and thinking about being so busy. It's the thinking about it that is the source of the stress.

Once I settled into the idea that tax season isn't going away, that I love teaching yoga and training new teachers, and that there will always be “the next thing,” I was able to slow down my mind and enjoy this seasonal transition in its full splendor. The sun stays in the sky a little longer each day and spring keeps getting closer. I can't wait for my daughter to come home again, even just for a few days, and I actually love baking birthday cupcakes.

This is the big secret: once you come into a place of acceptance towards what is happening, and you stop trying to control, fight, or impose your beliefs on something, there is a beautiful grace that follows.

Remember what I always say in yoga class: this is a practice not a perfect. When I notice myself stressing over being busy, I need to step back and remember what I learn in my yoga practice.

I enjoy those light-filled moments when they do arise and I know it is my daily yoga, meditation, and pranayama practice that makes them more accessible.
