My Art Desk Day 7

Original Date: Feb 6, 2018

It has been one week since I decided to post a picture a day of what I am working on at my art desk. I like the accountability of this project, and it also seems more meaningful to me than posting on Social Media.

Here is my desk today. I taught a class this morning, and I have an appointment this afternoon- so I don’t have a lot of time to work. That makes me sad… But tonight I plan to knot some more on my latest macrame`.

I have finished the second landscape (bottom), I started it yesterday. I feel that it is overworked. It lacks the clarity of the first one. The ink cracked because I was too heavy handed with it- so I actually sanded it down (just in those spots) and put a few more layers of paint on top. Next time I will use a brush with the opaque inks. It has energy and vibrancy, but isn’t quiet as clear and crisp as the other. I tend to overwork rather than underwork my images. I do feel like my hand-signature-style is re-emerging. I have always had a very recognizable artists mark, and I feel like I found it again.

What you also see here is a blank sheet ready for the next painting. I have to leave soon for my appointment, but  I find it is a good practice to prep and have ready for the next work, even if I don’t have time to work on it. It sets the stage and encourages me to work again when I have time. This one is prepped for a portrait of my daughter, Ellessia. She has been asking me to do her portrait, so I am giving it a go. It has been about 2 decades since I did a portrait, so we shall see how this progresses.
